yes, I love chatting with people, all people, from all over the world. Although chat/email can't substitute a real conversation, it has some advantages to it: You don't see the other person, you can sit in your pajamas, with your hair messy, and the other person has the freedom to imagine you the way he wishes. Plus, you can say what you truly think, and that's something that you don't always have in a real conversation; you can relax and be yourself 100%; you get to know more people than you have the chance to in real life, if you don't like the person you're chatting with, you just don't write him anymore. In real life it's tougher.
Hobby or need? For me it's both. I'm living in a boring town, where most of the people are what most people think of as the American stereotype--ignorant college students who only care about football and sex. Not everyone is like this, but it's quite a challenge to meet interesting people here, and I'm a busy person. Internet gives me the option to "talk" to people with the same interests/hobbies as mine, key pals who keep me company when I feel alone. |
