set your preferences 1
By MKG
(please on google page www.googl.com)
when any one want to search any topic,he just write any of his keyword(s) on the box in front of you!!!!
did you set your preferences before
it is important,as it narrow your results and help you somehow
ok click it (it is on ur right hand the second option)
or click this link http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en
the first option is interface language ,just click the pull-down list and choose yr prefered language
u will also find some funny languages such as Hacker(where numebers are used to some extent instead of alphabet) and elmer fudd(where Rs and Ls are changed to Ws)
N.B. if u chose a strange language and want to return to english
u will find in the front Page a link to the google in English

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
the second option is "search language"
the first choice (the recommended on)is "Search for pages written in any language"
or u can choose the second on any specify the language you like to have in your search
n.b. i think it's better to specify yr favourite language to narrow the results
as u like anyway
------------------------------------------------------------------------
the third option is:
"SafeSearch Filtering "
it's a filter to screen out any pornography from your search (web pages and images)
there are 3 stage as you see
i think that is understanable
1)very ristricted
includes preventing texts and images
2)medium
prevents images only
3)no filter
if u find any porno link in ur search you can send it to the google team to fix this problem
just send them email with the bad link at
[email protected] |

----------------------------
the forth option is
" Number of Results"
it determines the number of results u will have
if u have a slaw connection 10,20
if u have a good one (isdn,adsl)100 is better
it depends as u know
just click the pull-down list and choose
------------------------------------
the last option
" Results Window "
check the box,the web pages will be opened in new windows when you click a search result
-----------------------------------------
after adjust your preferences
click save preferences
then a window will appear telling u that they have been saved
click ok

Understanding google page results
by (guess who?) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=palestine&btnG=Search
open this link
after writing the your keyword and click SEARCHjust a few seconds to see the page result.Any page results includes some main basic types of information:
1)a summary of the search results
you will find it in the shaded bar ,above and to the right of the results list.It tells you the number of results in the page ,the total results number and the time taken to show the results.
on the left side of the summary bar is your keyword
n.b. some times u will find after the keyword the word definitionit looks up the word in www.dictionary.com
you also can know its meaning and finrd another equal meanings of your keyword if it doesn't work(synonyms)
it only available in the English version(cause the dictionary is only english one)
2)the search results themselves
any search results consists the page name ,which is hyperlinked to the page itself.below that some relevant text from the page itself ,blow that the URL and next to it some information about the pgae about is size
n.b.if this page exceeds 50 kb ,it will be slow and boring if u don't have high speed internet access
ok i can read that question in your eye.
sometimes you find a weak relation between the page title and the txt below
it's the mistake of the page developer (who doesn't care w the page title or want to have many visitors so he puts a lot of irrelevant keywords)
if u have a very long page use your Browser's Find to find the word or use google toolbar(i will explain it soooooooooon)
the next lesson will be about the google cache and similar pages |

Cache
by mkg
ok,if you look next to the url (back to the previous lesson for more details)
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=palestine&btnG=Search
what is the cache(plz click on cache in any google search results)
is a storage area for computer files.Google keeps an enormous cache of web page.
when u click it,it gives u quicker display of the the page cause u get it from google itself.
N.B.the google cache is not up to date( to that time of browsing the cache,it may be 3 days behind)so,if u want a site that changes frequently(such as newspapers sites)
go to it directly instead of the cache
the cache Vs index
ok don't care much about taht
index is a database of web pages contents
cache is the web pages themselves |

similar pages
by mkg
when u click it,google stats a new search for pages that resemble that result.
sometimes it is veru helpful giving you a variety including your keyword and other related pages
i.e. it gives a sense of the network lurking around a web page
exploring the outgoing links from the target page.
that's enough today
i can accept any feedback |

Indented Results
by mkg
-----------------------
they are offset from the mai body of results with an idention
such as
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=ants+killing
(the third result)
these indented sites are located in the same domain as the above page result.
it's simply means it's redundant to click both.
you will see under this indented result
[ More results from www.biconet.com ]
i think it is clear enough.
a good tip
if you want to search for a keyword in a specific domain(web site)
I have the solution
Write this operator
site:
the form will be like this:-
site:www.cia.gov Egypt
note1:no space between the operator(site:)and the domain
note2:leave a space between the key word (operator & domain)
note3:also you can put your keyword before the(operator & domain).
N.B.
more tricks and tips and operators(like site:)
will come soon
bye now
peace be upgiven you all
TRY IT NOW |

Advanced Search
Hi friends ,it’s me again
Imm did you miss me
Ok let's stop talking and fly towards GOOGLE PLANET and the advanced search
Common question
When should I use advanced search?
1)if you want to focus on a search more narrowly than a general keyword search.
2)if you don't bother with the complexity and various search operator.
3)if you want to combine more than one search operator.
As for the advanced search page itself:
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
(I think you have opened the above link)
the page contains many keyword boxes and drop-down menus to offer your targeted search and the best results.
Of course you don't have to use every thing in this page.
You can write just what you really want to even if that is just a single word.
See you below |

Advanced search using multiple keywords
By MKG
------
the first section of the page is called (find results).it's in the shaded area.
-you can use these keywords boxes in the following ways:
WITH ALL OF THE WORDS:
Putting keywords here forces Google to contain all of these words ,with no exception .Every page result will contain these all words.
WITH THE EXACT PHRASE:
This like using quotation marks in most search engines and delivers pages that contain your keywords in the same order ,and exact spelling, that you have typed. (a good tip to use in simple search by putting your phrase between two quotation marks "hi there")
Note: it's helpful when you search for people's names (Michael Moore) ,sport teams with their cities or colloquial phrases. |

WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE WORDS:
It widens your search results.
For example, if you're searching for building string instrument (like cello, violin), you might type (violin cello viola) –don't forget leaving spaces-in this box, with instrument building in the top box.
WITHOUT THE WORDS:
It's useful in narrowing the results. For ample, if you search for (horse training) ,you may find in simple search ;results related to circus or drugs(horse is used to indicate a kind of drug) and so on. So you can type in this box these irrelevant words.
