is it "hold on to" the hotel? if it is, it means "maintaining possession of."

are you going on a vacation? why don't you stay with your cousin so you can save money? i think i should keep my reservation while i check with them. may be they don't want me in their house.

hold on to the hotel = keep my reservation.

are you leaving mary for that new girl? no, i will hold on to mary.

Also, if it is actually "hold on the hotel". . .

Example:

"I might go on this vacation but I'm not sure if I'll have enough money. I want to reserve the hotel now, though."

"Well, if you're not sure about the money, I would hold on the hotel."

There is an expression "hold off on ______" which can also be stated as "hold on ____". It is similar to "wait on" but implies that you will not make a decision or action yet.

so is "hold on" waiting, not making any move now? this would be different from "hold on to."

Well, yes and no. There are several different meanings. There are those that you expressed but there is also what I defined.

Then, there is "hold on" which means "wait".

Ex. "Mom, can I go out to play?"
"Hold on, I'm on the phone."
