Dear Miss Daredevil,
Please check this out from the Merriam-Webster website:
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=pragmatic
The words differ in usage. "Pragmatic" does mean "practical" but is harder to use correctly because it is more specific and abstract. It often describes a group of people or a methodology. We can describe the American people as being pragmatic, for example.
"Practical" can be used in a much wider variety of situations. For example, we can say "People find computers very practical to use everyday", but we cannot substitute the word "pragmatic" in the sentence.
Perhaps some other people here at the forum have some good ideas to help clarify this for you!
All the best,
