I would like to know the synonyms of *scrape*?
As in the *scrape* below -
My efforts to scrape the paint off failed.

I don't know of any synonyms that work as well as "scrape" when talking about paint scraping. "Remove" does not convey the sense of very hard work that "scrape" does. You could say "scuff off" I guess, but this too sounds more incidental than "scrape."
I'm at a loss here... Anyone else know something that works well? |
