Sugar

People everywhere love sweets.
Sugarcane is the important source of sweetness since 18th century.
Sugarcane is a grass that grows like bamboo.
Europeans learned how to grow sugarcane and how to make it into sugar.
At first, sugar was luxurious , expensive and valuable.
Sugar is addictive.
Europeans loved it and wanted to find good land for growing sugarcane .
So they sailed to Africa and New World.
They found Caribbean. It�s a great land for growing sugarcane .
When European began producing sugar in Caribbean colonies.
The price of sugar went down.
Even the poorest people can afford it.
They used it to bake bread and cakes.
European began eating more and more sugar.
Eventually sugar accounted for 20 percent of the calories in the English diet.

The economy of England ,France, Spain and Portugal thrived on the profits of sugar .

one thing that is wrong is that indians were first to discover sugar making, they taught arabians, who in turn, allowed the europeans to learn the sugar making process during the crusades. one kilo of sugar caused 1000 slaves to die during the time when europeans grew sugar in caribean. the reason haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere is because of this pricess.
