hello fa6ma! Nice to meet you:D
Ok I will tell something about my country!
Slovakia is a small country in Europe, its population is over 5 milion. The capital city is Bratislava. It borders on Czech republic, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and Austria.
Although Slovakia has a little area, you can find a lot of natural, historic and cultural monuments there.
Until 1993 it used to be a part of Czechoslovakia. In 1993 it split into Czech republic and Slovakia without any war. And in May this year Slovakia joined the European Union.
We have a very rich culture, a lot of folk songs and folk dances. And a lot of traditions!
Our national food is called "bryndzove halusky". It is very delicious (I think). Halusky are small potato dumplings and we put the cheese "bryndza" on them. Bryndza is produced in Slovakia only, nowhere else in the world and it is kind of sheep cheese.
Our language is Slovak which belongs to Slavonic languages.
What is maybe interesting is that Slovak surnames are different for men and women. Female surnames usually end with -ova, sometimes with -ska, -cka but they are never the same as male.
The most popular sports in Slovakia are football and ice-hockey. In ice-hockey we are quite succesful - Slovakia is the 2002 world champion, 2000 silver, 2003 bronze medalist. People here are really crazy about hockey, especially during the world champs, almost all people watch it.
Some people think that Slovakia and Slovenia are the same country but it is NOT true at all! Slovakia and Slovenia are two different countries!!!!
Well if you are interested in anything about Slovakia, just ask me!!
bye!! |

I think, there are not a lot of people out of Europe who know about Slovakia.
Is there anyone who has never heard about Slovakia? |

Hello dasa!
I call you from the neighbour, coz I live in Hungary!
On Easter holiday our family was over there, in Slovakia! It was very nice, I liked it very much. I learnt a word: potraviny. It was the text on all shops, was it? Anyway we were there to see a castle. Right now I don't remember its name, but I will search it! |

Hello Little A, nice to meet you!!
I'm happy that you had a good time in Slovakia
Potraviny actually means grocery so those were food shops which you have seen.
Greetings to Hungary !! |

Good idea with the ESL castle
Do you know the fairy tale Fantaghiro? I'm not sure but I think that this was filmed also in this castle... I remember, when I was a child we went there with my parents and there was a violet bed and my mum told me it was the bed where Fanthagiro slept! I must find out if it was true!
Little A: Yes, hello = ahoj pronounced as ahoy as you wrote! I can say in Hungarian jonapot and szia? is that right?? |
