A park sign greeted us "Hihgest Peak, **That-a-way**?

Could anyone define *that-a-way*?

In parts of rural America the locals (allegedly) say, "That -a-way" for "that way". It means, in that direction.

Yes. I'm not sure that it is used much today, but it certainly was long ago.
