I think probably the referent came before this quote... Unless give it to is the idiom. It might be, but probably not. To give it to someone is to give them some kind of trouble: a physical fight, an argument, a reprimand, etc. Then the it would refer to trouble.
Mom is going to give it to me when I get home for flunking my math test. |

Yeah, the context isn't clear. It could mean, if she is not secure in her relationship, give it to as in complain to one of her friends. Or it could mean literally give the relationship (it) and her boyfriend to one of her friends and find a new boyfriend. |
