Hello people!

I would like you to be able to explain me some English grammar rules:

1) use of Ought to

2) use of this kind of future: I will be waiting. will + verb ing form
When do you have to use it?

3) I would like to know which words starting with a "h" do need the article "an". I know they are: heir, honour, honest and hour. Are there any other words?

PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS! Smile

I'm very sorry to ask these questions, but I do really need to be sure what I've learnt myself is right, because I study English at school, but I go on studying more myself, it is more interesting and useful.

Thanks in advance to those who are going to reply these questions, you can also reply to one of these!

Bye!

Ilaria, from Italy

1. I'm pretty sure it will work as a substitute wherever you use "should."

I'm very tired. I should go to bed.
I'm very tired. I ought to go to bed.

2. Sorry, I don't have a good answer for this one.

3. Is the first sound of the word a vowel sound (is the "h" silent)? Then you need to use "an". Otherwise, use "a."

Good questions, Lusaziel.

Question 2.) I will be waiting. You use this tense when you will be performing some continuous action in the future. e.g. I will be waiting for you outside the church between 2pm and 2.30.pm.
I will be studying German at the University of Heidelberg for the next three years. and so on.

Of course, I know when the "h" is silent you need to put "an" instead of "a"... I know the rule, but I haven't uderstood it properly... how can recognise wheter the "h" is silent or not?

You look it up in the dictionary. If the H is silent, it will tell you. Then you remember it.
