It is referring to the custom in the US to sing the national anthem before the start of a game, and to a basketball player dunking the ball against the person defending him.
I don't know if the quote is to be taken literally or metaphorically, though. It might mean that "he" dunked against somebody as soon as the game started, that everybody was not even warmed up yet. It might mean that the game hadn't even started, so the questioner is remarking that it was a foolish thing to do, taunting the opposing team like that. Or it might be a metaphor. Can you give us more context? |
