Hello. I went to Turkey about 13 years ago. (Olu Deniz, Marmaris, Bodrum etc)
It was a beautiful place. The people were friendly, polite, helpful and good humoured, all except the man who woke me up whilst trying to steal something from my room but that happens in all tourist areas. I enjoyed studying the history as Turkey was once a powerful country in world terms. Turkish baths are wonderful (mixed sex for tourists). I have since found a few Turkish baths in London which I used to use regularly (Islington). The food and fruit was fresh, healthy, very tasty and cheap (Turkish bread is great). There are more ancient monuments than in Greece and they are very well kept.
The only thing I didn't like were the toilets. Not being able to flush the used toilet paper away (if you are lucky enough to find any) is a little unpleasant.
In domestic political terms I think Turkey has a long way to go before it should be considered for membership of the EU.
I would like to go back one day. Istanbul has been recommended by a friend who worked there for 7 years. _________________ No one is innocent. |

I don't think EU will be worth bothering with in 15 years. It's already starting to show strains.
Germany has 12% unemployment. France's economy is going down.
They are already trying to change all rules to help themselves.
Forget about it. |

Hello Eda.
That is a very difficult question to answer.
All people all over the world have many similarities, such as 2 arms and 2 legs. What makes us different, in my view, is our upbringing and cultural references and customs. I must honestly say that I don't know enough about Turkish culture to be able to immediately distinguish a Turkish person from someone from a neighbouring country.
I lived in London for 28 years and for a few years I lived in an area with many Turkish people, shops, restaurants etc (Green Lanes in Tottenham). I do remember that the family was an important part of Turkish life as was the separation of men and women on many ocassions.
Please correct me if these points are wrong and feel free to tell me more about your country. _________________ No one is innocent. |

yes in our culture family is very important but in some parts(west parts) this is not as important as it was .but some rural and superconservative parts (such as southeast and east) family even arrenges their children's marriages...but there is a strong link between members of a family and it s wonderful to feel you are always cared, supported by your family..on the other hand the contrast between the two worlds-one sophisticated and urban, the other rural and religious-is increasingly drawn more sharply in turkey than in any other country.fortunately that means the scope for change is also the greatest here in my country..in my opinion turkey is very lucky because it has a lot of ethnical groups.there is a huge, multicoloured mosaic here and it is great to be a colour in this mosaic |

Hello. I'm Japanese man. Turky is a one of the countries I want to go. I heard Turkish people are kind. I watched a TV show that a man travel to countryside in Turky. Maybe, bacause asian person was rare in there many Turkish people talked to him and helped his trip. I have a question. Is there big differences of living quality between urban area and country side? In Japan there are no big differences bitween them. |

Hi ichikawamama
i hope one day you can come turkey:)yes unfortunately there are big differences of living quality between urban area and country side.for example peasants came urban area for a better economical state but they generally can't keep up with it...
and there is another thing that WE haven't completely keep up with yet is democracy.i think that's because we didn't fight for it, our great leader Atatrk bring it for us...so we are still trying to learn and put into practise
i believe one day Turkey will wear this wonderful dress! |

I like Turkey as country for vacation.
I was in Side a few years ago. Great country
But i dislike the behavior of young Turks in foreign countries.
For example lots of young Turk gangs in Germany are violent and due to their religion they think unmarried woman are worth nothing and the treat woman like *beep*. - very sad
The young Turks think they are strong in the Group. But when you are face to face with one they usually act like wimps. |
