Dear sirs,
Since this my first post on this forum, I think it fit to introduce myself.
I am Mohamed Issellmou, an English student preparing to take the TOEFL in Mauritania.
It is great pleasure for me to be part of this community.
I wish all the members here all the success with their respective tests.
My question is about the TOEFL exam, and particulary about the TWE section.
What kind of vocabulary should we use when writing a TOEFL essay and what expressions must be avoided?
For example, is figurative language frowned upon? _________________ May God help us all |

Sounds like you have a very good command of English, and that you will do well in your test.
Figurative language is alright depending on the way it is used. If it is over used, it is not a good thing and will lose marks rather than gain them.
If it is appropriate, then it will score good marks as it would demonstrate good command of English.
Why not read some academic style articles and make a note of how often and what kind of figurative speech is used. That would give you a good idea.
All the best. |
