Yes. To make it the right size to fit. Usually it would be "down" to size.
"It should have been a 1, 000 word essay, but I had written 3,000 words. So I had to cut a lot out to get it down to size."
"The cake was too big to fit in the tin, so I had to cut it down to size." |
