What about the *hands* of a clock? Can that be *dials* too?

The "dial," or "face," is the part with the numbers (or letters for a compass) on it. The pointer of a compass (or "needle") and the hands of a clock are the parts that point to the numbers/letters. The dial works with the hands/pointer/needle to give the reading.
