Dear teachers:
You're supposed to be queen for the day.
a) Do you use "queen" as an adjective often in everyday speech?
b) "for the day" means "today"?
Thanks. |

No. Queen is a noun. In the case above, it is used as a predicate nominative (an noun object following a verb of being used to modify the subject "You").

Yes, and today only. |

What's the meaning of * queen* here, as the one that pops out in dicitionary?
Thanks |

It's more like, "You are the very special lady for today."
Forty or so years ago in the U.S., there was an awful game show called "Queen for the Day." Three different women competed every day, telling the horrible stories of their lives. At the end of the show, the one with the most pitiful story was chosen as the queen for the day. She'd be given a dozen roses, and prizes such as refridgerators and washing machines. Believe it or not, it was a very popular show. |

I read it in an article about Mother's Day. Surely, Mother should be queen for that day. |
