Dear teachers:

That pretty girl looks like a possible *pickup*.

What does "pickup" here mean?

Thanks.

A pickup, in this context, means that she looks as if you might be able to pick her up, i.e. have a date with her etc.

I do not find this very clear. Do you have to be strong to pick her up?

I have heard of a pick up truck. Any connection?

I do not understand what it means to pick up someone. Can you explain please.

"To pick someone up" is common slang meaning to have someone join you or your group.
Example:
Mrs. Jones picked up her son from school to take him to Little League baseball practice across town.
If we're going to the bowling lanes, let's pick up Tom. He enjoys bowling too.

In the OP's post and in pugachevV's explanation, the situation "to pick her up" implies getting her to join you for the purpose of dating or easy socializing.

In a somewhat related term, a "pick-up" truck is a truck you use to pick up things and take them with you.
