1: at the news the old lady was so afraid that her face was drained of blood.

2: i'm afraid you're wrong

when will the word "that" be use? thanks!

It's complicated, Quincy. Here are two webpages that explain it. The first explains several ways in which the word is used. The second discusses only one use, but its English is perhaps less dense. If you have any questions after looking at these, I or someone else in here will try to help you:
