In Taiwan, at New Year's Eve. We usually have a family dinner. In dinner meals, we always have to eat a vegetable named " Year Round Vegetable ".
The vegetable is quite long, but we couldn't break that, we have to eat it with a mouthful bite. The vegetable means your live so you couldn't break your live. It's a culture for you'll live long long long time.

I'm very interested in the begetanle called "Year Round Vegetable". I can speak Chinese and I'm actually quite familiar with Chinese culture, but I can't figure out what the equivalent Chinese word. Can you spell it in Chinese pin yin?

By the way, do people in Taiwan celebrate the Spring Festival differently from people in Mainland China? Thx[/i]

I guess "Year Round Vegetable" is "tuanyuan cai"in chinese. Are people allowed to play firework in China and Taiwan in the Newyear? I lived in Vietnam before, and we celebrated Newyear like most chinese do. but we were not allowed to play firework there.
By the way, nizeng are you a chinese from China ?

Hello! The rural children will be allowed to play firework, because it's more safe to play in a bigger place. Parents and teachers will always remind kids to be careful. In the past, this activity was in more vogue.
