My dictionary says that a motel is a hotel by the side of a road. Digs is informal for lodgings, which in turn is a room in someone's house that you pay money to live in (not stay in for a night or two). Surely someone would not say "motel" when what they really meant was "digs," would they?
I did promise to believe him if you do, but there are also some other doubts nagging at me. If he caught the crabs from the sheets, then it must be that he slept in the raw. If he had been wearing pajamas, or even shorts, would the little critters have been able to make their way through the material of his clothing? It doesn't seem very likely, but then again, I have no personal knowledge of them. But if the sheets came in contact with his bare skin, did he also have crabs in his chest hair, eyebrows, armpits and/or eyelashes? If not, why did they perceive only his pubic hair as a tempting new home? It does seem to stretch ones imagination just a little bit!
And what about his judgment? He sees these filthy sheets, night after night, one dig to the next, and decides not only to sleep in them, but to sleep in them in the raw? Wouldn't he have decided to wear clothing? Wouldn't he have thought to ask the person in charge for a clean set of sheets? Or if he was too shy for that, after the first night, wouldn't he have sought out a discount departmant store to buy his own set of cheap sheets?.. If I were you, I would insist on condoms - especially when he returns from a business trip. Maybe that's just me, though. |

An englishman? I doubt it.
You have obviosly never heard of digs or experienced them, where you take a room on long rental, work during the week, and go home at weekends. Unscrupulous landladies will sometimes take advantage of your absence for the weekend and let out the room for one or two nights. But while the temporary occupant might be dirty the digs themselves are clean and respectable. |

There are very few Motels in England. But there are many digs (lodgings) in the smaller towns. It is much more convenient for medium term stay to go to digs than go to a hotel for several months.
It is absurd to think of them as being filthy. But as I said, sometimes the landlady will let your room out without telling you. She has a routine day for changing sheets and to do it out of sequence would reveal the fact she let the room out in your absence to make a fast quid. It would not be a regular practice and not many casual visitors are crab-ridden. And after one nights use they certainly do not look any different from normal. They are not visibly"filthy."
And yes, I do sleep in the nude. like so many others.

Don't be silly, Bud. You do not go fron digs to digs. You book the room for several weeks at the least and usually for several months. For a temporary period it is your residence in that town. The room is supposed to be for your exclusive use.

I have no problem with sleeping in the nude - unless it is in a filthy bed.
Why does your English BF hide behind his GF? What is he afraid of?
Come out, come out wherever you are! |

Think Bud, Think.
He is not hiding. He does not have the interest in registering with a group that is interested in earning English. He speaks English, (Surprised?)
We discuss English learning. He helps me. |

I guess, Blossom, you think pugachevv is not English because he has a Russian name?
But blossom is not a Chinese name, so using your logic you cannot be Chinese.
I think your view of England is a bit out of date.
There are many motels/hotels in UK now. Many of them are American chains - Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Hilton, Sheraton etc..
God knows where your quai loh friend found "digs" so disgusting he caught crabs there.
If you are wise, you will have learned something about his lack of judgement, or his need for spectacles. |
