There seems to be a considerable difference between American culture and other countries. Here is simple test:
How much money have you ever given to your parents.
I have not met any American who has ever given any money to the parents. So different from Asia. |

blossom, great topic!
I often give my parents money and buy them some gifts like clothes, perfume, etc.
actually, my parents don't need my money, when I give them money, they always save the money for me, they never spend my money. I am mad of their actions. actually, I know my parents have paid a lot of money for me in the past. so when I give them money, I really hope they would run out of the money, wich which they could take a trip, buy some stuff for themselves...then I would be very very happy! but they never do that! that is the obvious difference between western parents and Asian parents.
yeah, different offsprings, different parents from the western ones |

I have taught many adult students in Beijing and I cannot recall one single one of them who has not sent money to their parents. Many of them do it on a regular monthly basis.
I have never come across any Western person who has sent money to their parents. Christmas and birthday presents, of course, but never money. |

then i'm the first
okay, my parents are divorced, but i support my mom as much as i can. i live with her, my sister lives with her boyfriend for a year now, but she's also supporting us, she gives us some of her child allowance and i give all mine to my mom, because she finally still cares for me, means she pays the rent and our food every month. and i buy my clothes and everything else myself.
and i would always help my mom if she some how would lost her job or anything else.
but i think, too, that asians care much much more about their parents, also their parents-in-law if they have some. it's just totally another culture.
i find it really sad that most western adults who earn enough money and could easily spend some money to support their parents and give them a nice life after working for so long, are too avaricious and self-absorbed to do so.

as Manuel, i'm still too young to give them money. I don't even have a job or anything to support myself !!
But obviously i hope to help them somehow when they're older.
Although...my father once told me that he wouldn't like me to help him economically. He doesn't want to be a worry for me. He said he'd rather work and then retire and lead a quite life. _________________ Tiziano, il mio cuore sta sempre con te |

but when it becomes necessary you will help and support him, won't you? so that's the point i think. you probably won't stay away and let your parents alone when they need you.

Leaving them alone would be very selfish, i mean , them are the people who raised me, arent them? |
