Dear teachers:

For the foregoing reasons, it is respectfully submitted that the cited references do not disclose, suggest, or render obvious the claimed invention.

Is it grammatical to use "obvious" here? Shouldn't it be "obviously"?

Thanks.

It is perfectly grammatical as it is written. A grammarian would say that the sentence is obviously correct.

*rendered obvious* means it is made clear to almost anyone: (*obvious* is an adjective)

*Obviously* is an adverb.

Thanks. I always thought that an adjective could not be put after a verb.
