Shocked

NASA website wrote:
Image above: This artist's concept shows the planet catalogued as 2003UB313 at the lonely outer fringes of our solar system. Our Sun can be seen in the distance. The new planet, which is yet to be formally named, is at least as big as Pluto and about three times farther away from the Sun than Pluto. It is very cold and dark. The planet was discovered by the Samuel Oschin Telescope at the Palomar Observatory near San Diego, Calif., on Jan. 8, 2005. Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech

it's really cool Cool isn't it? Wink

the most exciting is that this is another evidence that our solar system or the whole space is not known at all..actually we do know so little about it..

Hi everybody!
What N.A.S.A. discovered is an asteroid conforming the already known "Kuiper Belt", where there are many other asteroids, but this one seems to be bigger than the others. It's like Pluto (another asteroid of the belt), and nowadays it's not widely recognized as a planet.

yes,I know it,but I think if Pluto was confirmed to be a planet, why this one not? There isn't a strict standard of defining a planet or a asteroid,is it?I hope it is the 10th. Cool

with pluto it's difficult Wink by some astronomists it's defined as a planet, some say it's an asteroid. you're right, there's no clear definition for either a planet or an asteriod. i think the NASA is just discussing about confirming this one as a planet or not. i hope so too Wink
