Hi! I'm a Japanese studying English. These days, I quite often find my vocabulary too small to express what I want to express properly. Could anyone kindly suggest to me how I can increase my English vocabulary and how I can use it with ease?

There is no easy way to acquire vocabulary. Any time you come across a word in English that you do not know, write it down and then look it up in the dictionary and learn what it means.
You can also create a database on your computer and by covering either the English or the Japanese, you can test yourself on the new words.
You should also learn at least one new word every day and try to use it as much as possible until you are comfortable with it.
The main thing is to use English as much as you can and also not to be afraid to use it. Very few English speaking people will laugh at you if you get a word wrong and most of them will be happy to help you.

My suggestion, to improve your vocabulary, is to find a source of material that is slightly above your current standard - the internet is especially useful for this - and use an online dictionary, like:

http://www.m-w.com/home.htm

to find the meaning of the new word. I have a couple of dictionanies on my shelf, but not beats the convenience of an online dictionary!

I have read the good suggestions here, and I want to add that if you can find more examples for the English words you learn, it will be more helpful in applying them.

Also, read more if you really want to expand your vocabulary. You can start reading the easy ones first, like short stories and news written in simiple English. (Sometimes, you will find simple words can express quite complicated meanings! ) The purpose is just to increase your willingness to get into the habit of reading. Choose a little bit difficult ones later as well because some challenges can stimulate your interest in it.

When you continue the habit, the words you have seen before will appear again and again in different ways - present tense, passive voice, gerund etc. That can reinfore your memory for the new words and give you more confidence in using them.

Using them is important or you will lose them.

I think it will help you to memorize the meaing of words,
if you learn them with context and a sentence, not individually.
A shade of meaning of words sometimes vary in context.

I think a way to increase your vocab with ease is you should to learn at least every day , like watch T.V. for English program , listen to a song at the same time write a word that you don't know then look it up in a dictionary and learn what it means. Once more you try to find a method to learn English vocabulary for enjoyable such as play a game , use the internet. Perhaps technology can help you conveniente for example , an online dictionary , talking-dict. For a talking-dict , you can to carry it everytime and everywhere. When you to find a word that you don't know for example , from a class room , from a poster you can look it up on talking-dict that timely. The last , I want to suggest you , this web will help you to increase your vocab.

There are many ways to increase the vocabulary.
First, you can start by looking everything surrounds you ,and thinking in English word.If you don't know the word ,you should open the dictionary suddenly and note the new words in your books or you can stick your note on the things that you usually forget them.
Next,if you want to memorize the vocabulary, you should make it easy to remember by arranging words such as the words that similar voice should be the same group or you can make the vocabulary to be songs .When you have spare time you can sing your vocabulary songs but in my opinion, the best way to remember the vocabulary is practice from reading ,writing and listenning ,you'll learn the new words by your self.

All these are excellent suggestions. You could also create your own dictionary. You can learn one or two words each day and constantly use these words in speaking. Using the words often would help you remember. As you watch a movie or read a book, have your dictionary notebook in hand so you can write down the words you don't know. You can later look these words up and use them as your daily vocabulary. I hope that helps.

Best regards,
Diana

I Think I have a few methods to get increase vocabulary. First method, if you like to read. You should read a book about magazine book or storybook such as Harry potter storybook. Second method, if you like to watch a movie. You may be choosing a movie that has English sub title and sound track. You will get many words and tone of voice. Last method, if you like to listen a song. You should choose English song then listen it and see lyric.
