practice, practice, practice!! i have just recently finished my required 2 yrs of foreign language in college (i am a native english speaker). i can sight read and understand pretty quickly, however, reading out loud and writing are always a challenge. the thing that helped me the most is to practice reading out loud...newpapers, books of any kind, road signs. etc. writing is the same, but i seemed to understand how the language worked by copying word for word what i was reading, then ready it out loud. just plain practice is the best. good luck, iitimone7

yeah, iitimone7 is right, just practice, listen, read, post msg on forums...

and another important way: be happy to lose face for learning english! I mean, the biggest obstacle to learn a second language is to worry about people's mocking, teasing. because when we start learning a new language, our pronunciation is weird and funny, then people would probably laugh. but believe me, they are not malicious, they just feel funny, they are well-meaning. so when you find people laughing at your english, why not laugh with them and meantime ask them to teach you?
