Dear teacher.
I don't understand from 'that although' to ' in use'.
I don't know how the structure is used because I think that after 'although' there should be a clause.
'Computers are proving helpful, however, that although very expensive many thousands are in use.'
Please help me explain.
Thanks. |

I guess the original is:
Computers are proving helpful, however, that although computers are very expensive many thousands are in use.
In the above, "computers are very expensive" is regarded as a clause, but the phrase "computers are" is omitted. If so, your sentence is correct. |

Please help.
Thanks. |

I thhink it is an incorrect sentence whose intended meaning is described by the other responders. |

Dear Sir,
Can I omit 'that' to make the sentence correct?
Thanks. |

for this situation...
in spoken english, the word 'that' is often omitted.
in written english, the word 'that' should be used.
for a different situation...
if you point at an apple and say, "please hand me that," the word 'that' refers to the apple.

I think it is clearer if the omitted words are incuded.
'Computers are proving helpful, however, in that although they are very expensive many thousands are in use.
But it would be better to redraft the sentence. |
