A "mounted" can opener with the UPC code removed (so the giver could get the rebate and we couldn't return it)

What does that mean?

Thanks

a can opener
mounted or wall mounted,it can be fixed on the wall
UPC =Universal Product Code
the giver is the person who bought this "mounted can opener" for another person as a present.
because the UPC was removed,the giver could get a discount (something like that)(I don't know why) but couldn't return it.
Since he wouldn't give it to others,he was no intention to return it in the first place.
I don't know if it's right or not. Very Happy

And wall-mounted can-openers are usually electric.

It must be that the manufacturer was offering a rebate on the can opener. A rebate is a discount that you get in the mail after you have paid the full price at the store. You need to send in the UPC label to prove that you purchased the product.
