Yes. The metaphor, I think, refers to a metal spring used in wind-up toys or clocks. You use a key to wind up the spring tight and store energy that the machine uses slowly. |

the wound that you asked about is correct and pronounced WOW-nd.
there is another word that is spelled exactly the same wound. this word is pronounced WOO-nd and is a sore. I wounded my arm when I fell down the stairs.
