not necassarily.
they're just shoes with soft rubber soles, so you'll wear them even if you don't do sports. i do (wear them, not sports).

There are many words used to describe rubber soled shoes besides sneakers. Here are a few:
trainers,
pumps,
gym-shoes,
daps. |

tennis (any sport here) shoes, running shoes, athletic shoes, cross-trainers, gutties, chucks, and let's not forget the Doggy Biscuitz, yeah...
