Dear teachers:
(a) A funny thing happened that night.
(b) A funny thing was happened that night.
Which one sounds more natural?
Thanks. |

a. A funny thing happened that night, is correct.
The action was all in the past and is completed.
A funny thing was happened, is incorrect English.
You could write, a funny thing was happening that night. This means that something funny was going on, that night. It describes continuous action that took place in the past. |

Thanks asterix. Could I replace "hapen" with "occur" in this case? And Could "occur" be used with the present participle? |
