i just wondered why the USA didn't do anything within their power to rebuild the dams and make sure that another hurricane (like Rita) can't lead to (much) more damage than what is already done..
I mean, it was apparent that there would be another hurricane, though without an weather forecast. it's just the time for hurricane in the south US. so why didn't they take actions?!

But apparently the hurricane was known enough to have enough time to escape from these southern towns, indeed, but it wasn't to take steps to prevent damages?

and what does the USA now? waiting for the next hurricane and the next and the next and until at last the whole southern coast is flooded?! sounds like a really reasonable plan to me.. Rolling Eyes

..hmm, sorry for my sarcasm Confused i know, in germany it's not so much different, although here it's the rivers that flood the towns and not hurricanes, but it leads to the same problems. and here it seems that the gouvernmant is the same opinion than in the US, just wait and see what's coming next and then cry and say "why haven't we done better before.." hahaha. mygod.. Rolling Eyes

greets Wink

That is politics.A government could gain more reputation from rebuilding some place than securing that place silently.

Corruption. Massive government corruption at the local level.
Yes, the city of New Orleans and the state of Lousiana had been warned repeatedly by civil engineers that the levies could only withstand at most a catagory 3 storm. And history had shown that catagory 5 storms were possible in the area. But since there hadn't been such strong storms in over 50 years (they seem to come in cycles, and we are in a new cycle), the politicians chose to spend (waste!) the taxpayers money on other projects (booze, hookers, & parties) instead of making the levies stronger.
The local authorities knew this was coming for decades but did NOTHING to prevent it. stupid stupid stupid Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

We like to think we can control nature, but we are deluding ourselves. Nature controls us, and every now and again, puts us in our place. If there is also negligence, incompetence, and corruption, we pay for it in spades, as in New Orleans.

How short your memory is, Admiral. It was Al Quaeda that attacked the USA. Were they supposed to just sit there and let these a s s h ol e s do whatever they like?

Ohyes, asterix, perhaps you are right.
But there are still memory pills which can be bought on internet, right? Mr. Green http://www.magneurol.com/
(Not that anyone misunderstands me: Please don't buy it because this is nonsense)

Yes, to the point, asterix.
What has Saddam to do with Al Quaeda? And all the Iraqis?

The question was - What are the Americans supposed to do when they are attacked, as they were on Sep 11th?
They did what they thought was right, and Saddam got caught in the fallout.
Too bad for him. It could not have happened to a nicer guy. He found out that if you push your luck too far, eventually it catches up with you.

So what?Just make us believe that they have enough money bombing others' homes into ashes but have no one cent of money to get their homeland secured? It's non sense.

I see, Element, that you are running on testosterone again.

Let us see how you Chinese resolve the problem of Taiwan before you lecture us about the USA's response to an unprovoked attack from religious idiots.
And what has been your response to your own muslims in China?
Is it somehow worse when the Americans do it than when the muslims do it?
It depends on whose ox is being gored, no doubt .
By the way you bomb people to death (not dead) no matter who is doing it.

of course the USA must have done something after 9/11. what would it have looked like if they'd done nothing? besides that, the concerned families who lost someone that day would have expected the government to act like they did. they wanted revenge what is too normal after such a shock.

what they maybe did wrong was the kind they did it. i think if they'd done it different (although i don't know how different Wink ) they may have had more success.

but element is right, too. how can it be that the USA can fight a war against terrorism and against iraq with amounts of money but isn't able to spend some money to prevent such things like a hurricane?! they knew this was coming.

greets Smile
