They are alike in that they are both seeds from trees. But they come from different kinds of trees and look very different.
Acorns are single nuts
from oak trees and are typically small (1-2 cm).
Pine cones come from pine trees and are clusters of pine nuts.
They are larger: 6 cm up to 30 cm for giant sugar pine cones. |

Thanks. The pine cone image was slow to download on my machine, and I had to hit "refresh" a couple times to get it to come up.

While on the subject of acorns, there is a saying "Big trees from little acorns grow."
Acorns are the seeds of oak trees which grow very large and very sturdy. The saying is often applied to children to suggest that they will grow mentally and become clever as well as strong, sturdy, and grown up |
