How do you interpret this sentence?
What do you think about it?
Is it true?

I recall, when I was a kid, my parents were quarrelling about who would make the best cook. they both can't convince each other, so they asked me:"babe, can you give a comment about our cooking skills? which one has better cooking skills? dad or mum?"

I answered:"You both have awful cooking skills. I prefer food cooked by my grandma."

That month, I lost my pocket money.

rr, but in this case, you also have the right not to comment. Or you say that they have the same cooking skills, here you also have said the truth.

The truth is always the best, even though it isn't exactly what we want to face...

But there are moments, extreme ones, when is better to lie... you know like when Galileo was asked if he still believed that the Earth moves around the Sun and not the reverse. Or maybe when you answer the phone and you realize that the person who's talking to you wants to insult or get private information to do bad things to your family...

For myself, it's very difficult to lie, I'm not saying I've never lied, though. Because that'll be a big lie. But, it has happened to me that a teacher gives me more points in an exam and even though I had a 100, still I tell him/her because I don't like the feeling caused after not saying the truth. It is disgusting, in fact; and somehow you finish feeling disappointed about yourself.

So, this is my opinion on this thread... Nice sharing it with you. Wink

Honesty is overrated. Too many people use "but I'm just being honest" as an excuse to be hostile and hurtful.
One of the earliest lessons of politeness we teach children is "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." It may seem simple, but there is a deeper truth there. In general, people don't want honesty or truth. People just want to hear what they want to hear. And it doesn't matter if you are talking about religion, politics, fashion, personal hygiene, or the weather.
Stuff your feelings and your guilt. If you want to be helpful, be helpful. And there are tactful ways to be helpful. But don't be hurtful under the guise of "honesty".
