hi to all Very Happy ...

i think first we should be better persons..to respect, to care, to love, every human, culture, country in this world...because by that we can make adiffrance...

the problems in this world happens through politics and politions we are the victims of thier dicissions... no matter what we do to affect thier dicissions thier is no answers...

so we should be better persons and affect our coummunities in order to help the people of this world to live in peace and in harmony...

take care...

Ditto all of the above about listening to each other, fighting for the underdog's right to be heard, etc....

But "save the world" from what?
From war? There's whole movements for that.

From global warming? There's whole movement's for that.

Save the 3rd world from poverty? There's whole movements for that!

All of the above could become a lot, lot worse if we don't sit down and think about how to live without oil. The end of the oil age is fast approaching us... I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's the end of "cheap oil" around 2008. That means the airlines are going down (Great Depression), it means the farmers are going to have trouble (oil based pesticides and fertilizers) and it means long distance economic relationships are going down.

Click on www.endofsuburbia.com for the previews! This movie is scientifically validated by Australia's celebrity scientist Dr Karl, big oil are starting to admit it's true, and Australia even has a government peak oil taskforce.

It's the end of the oil age, and if we don't handle this properly... well, just remember what happened in New Orleans. How prepared is your government for the end of the oil age? Do you trust them to look after you when you can't drive, and the local supermarket is starting to run low on food?[/i]

Apparently hydrogen is the perfect fuel.
It produces water when it burns and it can be made from water.
It needs lots of power to produce though. So is it a perfect fuel, or Catch 22?

Pugachev... you've hit the nail on the head! Hydrogen is great as long as you have electricity and water... and that's the catch, isn't it?

You'd basically have to DOUBLE all our power plants to produce enough hydrogen to run what we are running, and then it would cost TRILLIONS of dollars to implement infrastructures and filling stations.

And you know what? Fuel cells dont' even work very well yet. They have trouble starting up in cold weather, etc.

WE are going to face peak gas about 10 or 15 years after peak oil, and then maybe even peak COAL mid century! We cannot afford to waste our fossil fuels maintaining a way of life that is so energy demanding.

I think the answer is a MASSIVE "war time economy" emergency government construction of ALL renewable energy systems, especially:-
Solar Chimney's
http://www.enviromission.com.au/index1.htm
Hot Rock Geothermal
http://www.geodynamics.com.au/IRM/content/
because these 2 can work as 24 hour power stations and wind and solar PV can add extra power to the grid when the wind blows and the sun shines.

But even then there just will not be enough energy to run such a silly, car dependent, resource dependent suburban lifestyle... so "Powerdown" our cities, design walking distance high technology ecological cities like the following:-
www.ecocitybuilders.com maybe with the fantastic, almost science fiction looking
www.skytran.com as a source of transport for people, and of course normal rail and shipping for heavier cargo.

The bottom line? Beyond oil: Live light and local. We can't be as materialistic, or eat salads grown thousands of miles away. But we can have a more balance, more humane, healthier lifestyle in local economies. That's what I have honestly come to believe is possible with our current technology. Unless there is some miraculous discovery with fusion or nano-technology, live light and local. Cool

The future might be nicer than we anticipate... but it's going to hurt getting from our oil economy into the post oil world! Depression for the next 20 to 30 years, I'm guessing... get out of debt, sell the car, and learn to live more locally. Put up some of my posters, buy a 3 pack of the movie www.endofsuburbia.com it's time to go a little nuts and let our politicians know and our fellow citizens know... the oil age is over. What are we going to do about it?
