Dear teachers,

1. Paula saw a flash of lightning/thunder and then heard a deep boom.

2. The traffic had to slow down because of thick fog/vapour.

3. On a hot day in summer, I look forward to the chilly/cool evening.

Which word is correct and what is a difference between this words?

thanks in advance

1. She sees a flash of lightning. She hears a clap of thunder.

2. Fog. (In my experience of everyday English, "vapour" is most often used for the gaseous states of substances other than water. Of course, fog is vapourised water, but in common speech it is usually called fog.)

3. Most likely "cool." ("Chilly" is colder than "cool." It is possible that a place experiences hot days and chilly nights, but less probable than hot days and cool nights.)
