Dear teachers,

I'd like you to show me the usages of hypens.
In particular, how do these hypens in the sentence of "long-and short-term measures" work ?
I think both hypens are unnecessary or it would be needed between "and" and "short", that is, "long and short term" or "long-and-short-term".

Please help me.

student teacher,i am not a teacher.
my comments are the following:
long-and short-term measures" is right.
*long-and short-term *functions as adj.wo can add the hyphens between adj and noun,e.g,a kind-hearted man,a long-term plan.
*long-and-short-term*is wrong.
to understand well,*.long-and short-term measures* can be sepatated ,we can express *long-term* and *short-erm*separately.*and*
is added to link *long-*and *short-*together,so there is a pyphen between*and*and*short*.
do you agree with me?
thanks for any replies!!!!!!!

Actually the correct form is:

--- Long- and short-term

with a space after the hyphen used with "long."

Hello everyone.

How about "a completely computer controlled train"?
1. a completely computer-controlled train
2. a completely computer controlled train

Best regards,

1 is more correct however, it is more likely you will hear "a train controlled completely by computers"
because you are supposed to put the subject first... usually
