Hi everyone, I am an English teacher, and I know some other teachers visit this board. I thought maybe students could help us too.

What do you like about your English teacher/class? What don't you like? Any advice?

PLEASE!!! NO nasty posts. DON'T attack or complain. If there are bad things about your teacher/class, tell us and give advice, don't attack.

Teachers are always looking for constructive criticism. Smile

I like the teacher who is fun, friendly, or able to encourage students to talk more in the class. I dislike the teacher who seems unconcerned about his own class and only wants to finish his class soon and gets paid!

My high school English teacher was a patient guy. He was good at teaching us to deal with exams, but he wasn't good at oral and audial English. when I graduated from high school, I couldn't speak English and understand english-speaking at all. But got a high mark in the entry English exam to college (I got 90, of the full mark 100). But you have to see, in China, almost all English teacher are like that. they over-emphasize grammar, and ignore speaking and listening skills.

The best English I have met are from internet. I can list my great online teachers: a guy from Canada, named Jimmy, a girl from Catalunry, named Merce, a guy from Ireland, named Butler...and those teachers who help us with their excellent English on some forums, like bud, toe, Lorikeet, asterix, etc. they are great!

If I am a student, I would like such a teacher who has a wonderful performance about his/her English class. for example, he/she'd better play the class instead of just tedious speech. and I agree about river's opinion about that an english teacher should be funny, that way he/she can keep his/her students awake in class Laughing

Red, I read about a month ago that they are planning a major overhaul of the TOEFL test. (Maybe it was that they have already made the changes - I don't remember.) The revised test will reduce it's emphasis of grammar and vocabulary, while sharply increasing the emphasis on listening and speaking. A big part of the test will involve listening to an audio file, and then making your own audio that you return via the internet. (Something like that, anyway.) The article actually said that it will make it a tougher test for Asian students since there is such an emphasis on grammar and vocuabulary drills in Asian countries. English teachers in Asia are going to have to change their methods.

PS: Thanks for the kind mention!

You should let ur students listen to music if they r teenagers. But hey,do not choose classical music or soft music or somethin',but DO choose rock, rap, pop, which is very popular and famous.
Play somethin' like games, but funny one.But don't play the games which are boring, like about remembering,ur students will be not very happy with that, yeah?
Talk more in class, dun be boring with them.Be more creative!

My English teacher teaches us in a dull way.
Always, most of my classmates almost fall in sleep , but no one really dare to sleep during her lessons because of her harsh scolding and punishment Laughing .

On the other side, she sometimes tells us something interesting, which is off-topic,but not speak in English. Also, she plays some English films to us via the the computer and the projector. That's what I like. Very Happy

Maybe she isn't a very good English to me but she does care about us.
