Hello everyone.
The passage below is from a retold version of Ediths Book by Edith Velmans.
I thought of turning myself in from time to time. I thought: If I wanted to, I could go over to Gestapo headquarters and tell them who I really was. Edith van Hessen, I would announce. Im a Jew. If I did so, I would be sent to Westerbork.
Question:
What is the difference between #1 and #2 below?
1. If I wanted to, I could go over to Gestapo headquarters and tell them who I really was.
2. If I wanted to, I could go over to Gestapo headquarters and tell them who I really am.
Any comment would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Fw |

I believe both are acceptabe, was refers to past tense, while am is present tense. Who you were or who you are is very similiar. |
