Thanks Element. Unfortunately, in the west we have become very materialistic and that is the source of some of our troubles.

element, Tao means DaoDeJing, what about Chan?

Tao is Tao(道),not daodejing.Chan is Chan(禅).

thanks.

but frankly, I still don't exactly know what is Tao or Chan for? in my imagination, Chan is a person sitting down for a long time, without a single word during the period of his sitting! and Speaking of Tao, it is like...when a person slaps on your left cheek, you would love to let him/her slap on your right cheek. or like....when a man and a woman are sleeping together, we should ask them to stop...suchlike. However, I think I can do neither Tao nor Chan.

Read "dao de jing" if your classical Chinese reading was not bad,it's not like what you thought, but all about philosophical ideas.

I remember the 'left/right cheek' story was from bible.
