"Nobody asked me to do this, and it wasn't about guilt," Ms. Geist said.

What does the captioned sentence mean in the following context?

WASHINGTON, Mich. - Until last February, Mary Ellen Geist was the archetypal career woman, a radio news anchor with a six-figure salary and a suitcase always packed for the next adventure, whether a third-world coup, a weekend of wine tasting or a job in a bigger market.

Mary Ellen Geist talking to her father, Woody Geist. Ms. Geist returned to her childhood home to take care of her father, who has Alzheimer's.
Looking over an album of old photographs passes the time for Mary Ellen Geist and her father, Woody Geist.

But now, Ms. Geist, 49, has a life that would be unrecognizable to colleagues and friends in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. She has returned to her family home near Detroit to care for her parents, one lost to dementia and the other to sorrow.

"Nobody asked me to do this, and it wasn't about guilt," Ms. Geist said.

What she is saying is that she has returned to help her father because she wants to help him.

She is not returning because she feels she must return because of a potential guilty conscience.

Hope that helps - Kristi
