Hello. I have a question from Tochigi, Japan.
(1) It was not until he spoke that I knew he was there.
(2) It was not until he spoke I knew that he was there.
Question Which is correct? (I think both are correct.)

Heh. I think they are both right. You can say,
It was not until he spoke that I knew that he was there.
Or you can delete the "that"
It was not until he spoke I knew he was there.
So the other two versions sound okay to me too. |
