Will they be more like the sons of Alfie Chan, who cherish the gardens and tides and summits?

Explain to me how can you cherish the tides and summits? I thought cherish is something like to take care of. You can take care of a garden but not of a tide.

Alexander.

Alexander:

Cherish has a broader meaning. Cherish also means to hold dear or to feel or show affection for something. In this context, cheris has this meaning. The sons feel deep affection for the tides and summits.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I think Mike is right. Also, "tides and summits" (oceans, mountains) might be used to represent nature in general. Someone who cherishes "tides and summits" would be someone who has a very high regard for forces and aspects of nature.
