Question1: Which is[are] the proper English sentence(s)?
1. Suppose you are elected head of this school, what is the first thing you would want to do?
2. Suppose you were elected head of this school, what would be the first thing you would want to do?
3. Suppose you were elected head of this school, what would be the first thing you want to do?
4. Suppose you are elected head of this school, what is the first thing you want to do?
5. Suppose you are elected head of this shcool, what will be the first thing you want to do?
(Question2) tell me how "would" is used in the sentence 1?

I think that number 2 is the best choice. "Would" is being used as a subjunctive since you are not really the head of the school. You are only imagining what would be the first thing that you would want to do if you were the head of the school. I also think that number 1 would be acceptable, especially for spoken English.
Hope that helps. _________________ - Mike

Yes, 3-5 are incorrect. Everyone would understand you if you used 3-5, but these would not be technically correct.
Good luck. _________________ - Mike

No problem. Yes, it is a bit chilly here in San Francisco, but I suspect that Japan is much colder. Sorry that I can't help you with a girlfriend, but learning to speak English will certainly open up more possibilities for you. By the way, are you studying for the TOEFL test or something else?

I went there at the end of January. It was very cold up there, but I liked hanging out myself. It's a nice place huh?
