David-sensei, Thank you for your introduction of an interesting article.
2006 is the year of the Dog in terms of the Oriental zodiac. It seems that there are no counterpart to ailurophile. I only found "hippophile."

"k�ōn" is ancient greek and means "dog". so i'd say a dog lover is a kyonophile Wink because with ailurophile it's the same: "ailuros" is ancient greek and means "cat".

A Chinese character of dog has a pronunciation of "ken" . So it might have derived from Greek. That is a folk etymology. I stop joking.
