I can "buy" things = I bought lunch
I can pay things that are the result of a service = I paid my bills, I pay my doctor.
But I can "pay for" things = I am paying for my lunch.
What is the rule? Does "buy"="pay for"?
There is perhaps a subtle difference in the meanings:
I bought a dress.
I paid for a dress.
Thanks to all! |
