How am I supposed to use these words?
And there's another question:
If there's a man who I have never met ever before, and I wanna call him politely. Which one should I pick? Buddy, pal or dude? Or there are some much better words?
Thank you for your concern.

| All these terms are VERY informal and usually aren't the right way to talk to someone who is a stranger, especially if the stranger is quite a bit older than you are. If the stranger is a lot older than you are, "sir" might be a good choice for a man. ("Ma'am" would be appropriate for a much older woman.) "Mister" (for men) and "Miss" or "Ms." (for women) are used sometimes. If in doubt, try "Excuse me..." without a particular title. |

Thanks a lot. I get it.
And how about when I talk to my friends? Usually, when you talk to your friends or hang out with them. Are there any differences between these words? Which one is more popular? In movies, we can often hear the youths often call their friends "dude"

| With friends, any of them are fine. Right now, "dude" seems to fashionable. "Pal" and "buddy" have been around longer. |
