i am confronted with a question and i think it very easy for the native speaker to sovle my problem.
i don't know the meaning of the sentence:
"many a man has fallen in love with a girl in a light so dim he would not have chosen a suit by it'
it seems to be a quotation written by a famous person about love
i am confused about its implied meaning
i do hope someone can help me

Next time you might want to post in the "Learning English" or "Help Center" Forums. I'll try to explain.
It says that many men have fallen in love with a girl in a place where the lights were dim (they couldn't see very well). They wouldn't have gone shopping and tried to buy a suit in a light that was as dim as that. The implication is that in a bright light, the person might not have been so attractive.
