hi! i just read a book ("The Miracle Strain" by Micheal Cordy). it's about a gene researcher/scientist who found out that jesus had his gift to heal in his genes, and at the end the scientists could make a serum which contained these healing genes. so he could heal by body contact as soon as he injected himself (or other people) this serum.
i know it's science fiction and i don't want to start a religious discussion (!!) far from the question if jesus had ahd this genes or not, but what i wanted to know is:
what would you do, if you had a serum which can actually heal every disease in the world and which you can easily pass to other people by injection?!

but how would you decide whom to heal? which disease deserves to be healed and especially, which doesn't? would you heal everyone on the world who suffers from the tiniest illness or disease? but then you'll have a healthy population of earth and if there are really no diseases anymore (because you've healed everyone) then the population will grow and grow and grow until there's no food for everyone..
okay, i know it's really unbelievable that something like this would happen  i was just interested in your opinion!

I would make up a hospital in New York or Shanghai and I will earn money.
I would only heal the ones who give me money, so the world population won't grow so much. And it will cost, let's say, a lot so that not many can afford it.
And then I will use this money to engage scientists and I will build very many A-bombs for world domination.

so these poor people in africa who suffer from AIDS and other horrible diseases, you would let them suffer because they can't afford to pay you?! can you do this with a clear conscience? i couldn't..

What are the rules? Is this serum cheap or expensive to make? Does it make you immortal? Or does it just keep you healthy until, say, age 100 when you heart stops anyway? Does one shot give you immunity to all diseases forever, or does it only cure the disease you have now meaning you can catch something else later? What are the side effects? I wouldn't do anything without experiments and clinical trials to answer these important questions. |

to stellara: The poor people in Africa don't have anything to do with me. And even if I help the guys in Africa, maybe I can't help all of them. Then it's about coincidence who will die and whom I will heal.
And I have my own life in this society. And the aim of my life is to get money. So money has a lot to do with me.
That's a very rational conscience

good that you're already thinking of everything what could happen
no, my question was more theoretical. I read this book, that's how i came to think about this question. but i want to hear your opinion, too, so i'll try to answer your questions 
let's say you find a serum which is relatively easy to produce. if you inject yourself with it, it will give you the gift to heal other people (not yourself!) from whatever they suffer, no matter if it's a bruise or a flu or AIDS. You can't heal yourself because it takes effect only on other people. to heal yourself another person must have an injection. the healing effect is done by body contact. as far as i understood it should give you this "healing power" for ever, as long as you live. but a si said, it's only theoretical because i read it in this novel, so maybe it's a bit unbelievable or illogical for those who haven't read it..

Infrared is correct. There is the potential here for a lot of trouble. There are powerful corporations and tyrants who would try to control it. There are plenty of people who if they knew where it came from would consider its use to be sacrilegious. You would be a constant target for assassination. So you would need to keep the truth a deep dark secret at least at first.
But I would still feel a duty to share this gift. I would set up a clinic in a business-friendly place. NOT the U.S. With its government regulation, destructive lawyers, and too too curious journalists, it would not be a safe place to set up an office. According to the World Bank, New Zealand is the best place (and conveniently isolated). I would advertise that I have cures for all kinds of diseases. I would give myself and a few others the serum at first who will work at the clinic. To pay for the clinic and training of new healers, I would charge 10-20% of a person's 1-year salary depending on how bad the ailment is (the same percentage for everyone no matter of you make $100/yr or $1Million/year). I would give the patients placebo injections of vitamins saying it is the special cure for whatever, but it would just be an excuse to touch them to cure them.
With the income, I would open more and more clinics in other countries. By the time anyone found out the truth, there will be thousands of healers working all over the world. |

I would first let institutions try to find out how to produce such serum, then I will establish a patent.
