I'm a little curious about the phrase"stamp seal". I'm interested to know what is a stamp seal?
Is it a mark that we stamp on a substance such as wax on the surface of envelop? Or the object used to make this mark?
But I searched the internet by this phrase and I found that people also think that a stone or rubber or something else etched with a picture or words on it is called "stamp seal".
So, I'm wondering that how many things can it stands for? A mark or the object used to make it, a stone or other material etched with a picture or words, and what else? What kind of things that we can call it stamp seal? I'm looking forward to getting your help.
Thank you for your concern.

Hi Luca Scott,
I think you got the gist of it. A seal is a physical logo. An example would be an embossed seal on a diploma indicating its authenticity. The methods of creating a seal are varied. The stamp could be made of rubber, wood or metal. In the olden days, the seal would be used to stamp the wax near the signature on a letter, or on the flap where it is sealed. By the way, this is still a very romantic way to send a letter!
The Chinese, Japanese and other Asian cultures carve their names or logo on wooden posts to stamp on letters, paintings, etc. I'm sure there are many other methods of creating and stamping seals.
The object used to mark the logo is called a seal (or a seal stamp). The logo itself is called a seal (or stamped seal). We often hear of see the words "sealed stamp of approval." This phrase indicates that the product has been inspected or approved by some party named on the stamp (like Good Housekeeping or QC-12 (quality control)).
