What are they called? Words that are pronounced the same but have different meaning and spelling?
e.g.
clothes
close
I can think of any other... can you? pls let me know...

Clothes and close wouldn't be homophones. In general, it would be:
clothes=kl-o-th-[schwa]-z
close=kl-o-z
I can think of quite a few more, many of which are confused by native speakers
your/you're
its/it's
there/their/they're
read/reed
fourth/forth
be/bee
to/too
four/for
seed/cede
need/knead
dessert/desert (verb meaning to abandon, not the noun meaning dry area)
and many more, check the lists. |

My goodness, I've never heard "clothes" as two syllables in over 50 years, but you made me check the dictionary, and it is listed as the second possibility. Will wonders never cease. |
